Questions
Does Crate upload my files?
No. Every conversion, scan and background removal runs on your Mac. Crate has no servers to send files to.
Is anything deleted permanently?
No. App removal and cleanup move items to the Trash, so you can put anything back. If an extraction fails, the original archive is left alone.
Why do some formats need extra tools?
For niche formats Crate uses free, well-known open-source tools like ffmpeg, LibreOffice and calibre. It only offers those formats once the tool is installed, and Settings shows the install command for each.
Does it replace Finder?
No. It sits beside Finder: in the right-click menu, in the menu bar, and anywhere you can drag and drop.
What do I need to run Crate?
macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Crate is built for Apple silicon.
Can I use it on more than one Mac?
Yes. One Crate Pro key covers a few of your Macs. Deactivate a Mac in the app to move the license to another one.
